New Tunes #2
March 05, 2008 08:05 PM PST

It's a been awhile since my last batch of new tunes so I thougt I'd throw up a new batch that I've been feeling over the last month or so. They're all pretty recent, excepting Eloquent's Did U Pray and the Gear Box, but the latter is just too huge right now to leave out. As before, those adverse to bashment might want to skip to the second half for roots business.

Lots of heavy Big Ship bashment as usual. Numerous wicked bashment tunes from both Shane Brown and DJ Sunshine that depart from their respective Juke Boxx and Yellow Moon roots productions that hit hard last year. Sunshine has linked up with Birch for her new Ghetto Wuk rhythm. Check a bubbly little number out of the Big Yard camp with the I Nine rhythm. DJ Flava hits back after the massive 83 with the new Rub A Dub, stunning Richie Spice & Morgan Heritage tunes. Check a wicked tune from Cool Shade & Insane from Fat Eyes that seems to have flown under the radar, 'Brave Heart'. Buju and Peter Morgan have a killer tune out on Penthouse 'Reap What You Sew' that I thought deserved a good three minutes, serious business! Lustre Kings have a nice rhythm out by the name of Shining, check a couple of cuts here by Pressure & Lutan Fyah. Lastly a tune from the old heavyweight producer Syl Gordan.

My apologies to those expecting an '80s rundown, hold tight. Thought I'd rundown some relatively new tunes and rhythms. Some are virtually brand new e.g. the Journey, and some go back to early December with a couple further back.

Dancehall to start off then moving into roots in the second half. Those adverse to the former may want to fast forward.

(N.b., ran through it fairly quickly so apologies if it's a bit rough around the edges, and for the sketchy quality of Dutty Gun and lastly the self-inflicted skip(s) during Anthony B - No Love )

Serani - Not A Badman (Daseca)

Night Creature Rhythm (Di Block)

- Deva Brat - Night Creature
- Munga - Gangsta Name

Round 2.

Something more substantial this time, 60min.

We ease in with a couple of mid '90s tunes then into some more serious digital business. A few Jammys tunes and a hard digital Pablo production. Pinchers pops up on a hard Black Scorpio rhythm. A couple of nice Witty productions. A wicked Parish rhythm you may have heard from Tim P at Dancecrasher. Then into more mid '80s band backed productions with some subtle digital twists.

All in all a similar feel to the first mix, enjoy!
